Isle of Man TT Races (Tourist Trophy)
The Island’s most famous annual event is the Isle of Man TT Races (tourist trophy) established in 1907. This historic event sees scores of tourists from all around the world lining up to witness the daring motorbike racers, race around the islands 37¾ challenging Mountain Course.
The Isle of Man TT course remains largely untouched since 1911 and remains one of the most dangerous courses on the biking circuit. The skill and concentration needed is unparalleled. Using the Island’s main road, the bikers must contend with the narrow village lanes, lamp posts, phone boxes, manhole covers, bumps and extreme bends that these roads have to offer.
The Isle of Man TT captures the imagination in a way that no other race can. With an average speed of 131mph – and hitting in excess of 200mph over the Mountain – there is no margin for error.
The races that commence at the end of May attract the greatest numbers of any other motorbike event for an entire two-week period. Thousands of Motorsport fans are able to be right next to the action at various viewpoints all over the island. This enables individuals to view the incredible, breath-taking racing and unrivalled picturesque views of our stunning Island.
Described by the legendary F1 commentator Murray Walker as ‘the greatest motor-sporting event in the world’, each year we ask which victor will have their name inscribed on the Isle of Man TT trophy this time?
