Alnwick is one of the most popular locations for filming blockbuster movies and TV films.
Steeped in history, with one of the most magnificent castles in the country, it is no surprise that Alnwick is so popular with film-makers as a location for filming in the UK.
In fact a 2016 poll put it in the number one position, beating Windsor and Fort William, Tetbury and Wells.
Movies that have used Alnwick as a backdrop include Harry Potter, Elizabeth with Cate Blanchett, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Downton Abbey, Vera and Robson, as well as the recent BBC Shakespeare Festival epic The Hollow Crown. For directors, the authenticity of Alnwick Castle and the surrounding parkland of Hulne Park offer a dramatic and unspoilt setting.
The White Swan Hotel, just a few steps from the Castle and park, has its own dramatic story - our impressive Olympic Suite boasts the original paneling from the sister ship to the Titanic, the RMS Olympic, giving diners an idea of what it must have been like to live in the elegance of a by gone era. Our stunning staircase was also salvaged from the ship and brought to the hotel by a previous owner who rightly believed it would make a fabulous addition to the hotel.
Our location makes us ideal as a base for filmmakers working in Alnwick, or for film fans wanting to see where their favourite films were shot.
