North Yorkshire Moors Railway

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is a must for any visit to Grinkle Park and the North Yorkshire Moors.

Climb aboard a steam or heritage diesel train for a delightful scenic journey through 'Heartbeat Country'. Settle down in a wood panelled compartment and watch the enchanting landscapes of the National Park go by.

Grosmont Station is only 10 minutes from Grinkle Park is home to the Railway’s engine sheds where their steam and diesel locomotives are maintained and restored. Walk through the George Stephenson tunnel, built in 1835, and if you are lucky, you might also be able to catch a glimpse at the work taking place on our engines. You can also embark on one of the many walks from the station into the moors or for something less energetic, such as the nearby artist studio or over the river to St Matthew’s Church, here you can discover the remarkable story of Grosmont’s industrial heritage and some information about the Whitby to Pickering Railway, before resting your feet at the Station Tavern accompanied by a pint of ale.

Whitby Station is only 20 minutes away where you can combine a trip on the NYMR to Pickering as well as visit Whitby which boasts the best fish and chips in the UK, climb the 199 steps to St Mary’s Church and see the atmospheric ruins of Whitby Abbey, discover all there is to know about Captain Cook at the Captain Cook Museum, or just breathe deeply on the town’s sandy beach.
