James Thompson - General Manager
Swans have loomed large during James's time with Classic Lodges! He joined us in October 2010 as Operations Manager at our hotel in Harrogate, The Old Swan, and became General Manager at The White Swan in September 2012. One of James’s passions is great quality food and wine and, with his team of chefs and front of house staff, has been building on the Hotel's reputation as a destination for food lovers. People now come from all over to eat at the Hotel. Outside of work James is an avid fan of all things on four wheels.
Brigit Taylor - Front Office Manager
Brigit is one of our White Swan veterans, with 15 years of service under her belt! Her knowledge of the hotel and her department has helped her and her team of girls attain the White Swan Hotel Team of the Year. Brigit is one of the first and last faces that you will see at the hotel, and is one of the reasons our guests just keep coming back time and time again. When she’s not at work, Brigit is an avid family woman, and also a bit of a talent in the kitchen. Her spaghetti and meatballs is famous in her household.
Alison Bateman - Financial Controller
Alison manages the hotel accounts, and always goes miles out of her way to help anybody with anything that she can. Alison has a tremendous eye for detail and leaves no stone unturned. When’s she’s not crunching numbers, hshe is a great lover of dogs, and often spends her well-earned down time unwinding in the Lake District.
Jamie Chilton - Assistant Manager
Jamie joined Classic Lodges back in 2006 as a kitchen porter at Grinkle Park Hotel. Since then he has turned his hand to almost every area of the trade. After graduating from university, Jamie became the first ever Classic Lodges Graduate Trainee Manager and spent time working at The Old Swan, The White Swan and Charingworth Manor. After spending two years as Deputy Food & Beverage Manager at The Old Swan Hotel, Jamie re-joined the team at The White Swan.
Diane Barrett - Group Coordinator
Diane is responsible for handling all our group bookings at the hotel, and has been with us for 20 years. During that time she has built up a fantastic amount of contacts who still return to the hotel to this day. Diane has been instrumental in bringing groups from all around the world since our recent refurbishment.
Valerie McEwan - Wedding, Conference and Events Coordinator
Valerie is one of the longest serving members of the White Swan and Classic Lodges Team. She comes from a great hospitality background and her experience has benefited the White Swan across all areas from food and beverage, housekeeping, to front office and, most recently, as one the hotel's duty managers. We always like to promote from within when the opportunity arises and because of her combination of great operational hotel knowledge, local knowledge and fantastic guest care skills, Valerie is now at the helm of our wedding, events, meetings and sales business.
Lynne Bailey - Head Housekeeper
Lynne runs one of the busiest departments within the hotel and has a great bunch of girls who are always smiling and chatting to our guests. Otherwise know to us all in the hotel as our “Judith Chalmers” Lynne loves her sun holidays and has been known to squeeze in a few sun beds now and again if she doesn’t get away at least once every four months somewhere tropical.
Stephen Dembry - Head Chef
Stephen has a wealth of experience and talent, and a passion for great food. After cutting his culinary teeth at Claridges in London in the early 90s, he went on to work within award-winning kitchens throughout the North East. He was part of the team to achieve 3 AA rosettes at the Vermont Hotel in Newcastle between 1993 and 1997 and went on to head up a number of highly-rated and accredited restaurants throughout the county. Outside of work, Stephen is a great family man and enjoys nothing more than spending quality time with the family.
